CASE STUDY

Misleading Advertisements Study

Comprehensive national study commissioned by the Department of Consumer Affairs to develop India's first systematic framework for regulating misleading advertisements

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Protecting Consumer Rights Through Advertisement Regulation

Led a groundbreaking 18-month research initiative for the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, to address the critical issue of misleading advertisements in India. This comprehensive study established the foundation for national advertising regulations and consumer protection frameworks.

Through extensive qualitative and quantitative analysis spanning a decade of advertising practices, we developed India's first systematic approach to identifying and prohibiting misleading advertisements. The study incorporated international best practices from 13 countries, creating a robust framework for advertising regulation.

The project culminated in the creation of the Handbook on Advertising Guidelines for India, 2020, and proposed a comprehensive advertising code, setting new standards for advertising practices and consumer protection in India.
